Get free NHS advice and, where suitable, treatment for everyday health problems without seeing your GP
The Common Ailments Service lets you see a pharmacist about a range of everyday health problems, without needing an appointment with your GP. It is an NHS Wales service, so there is no charge for the consultation. It is there for anyone who has a minor health complaint and wants advice from a qualified health professional close to home.
What happens
You speak with the pharmacist in a private consultation room. They will ask about your symptoms, how long you have had them, and any medicines you already take. Depending on what they find, they may:
- give you advice on looking after the problem at home
- supply a medicine for your condition, where that is appropriate
- suggest you see your GP or another service if you need further care
Your notes are kept securely, and your GP practice can be informed where needed.
Who can use it
The service covers a set list of common conditions agreed by NHS Wales. If you are not sure whether your problem is included, just ask — our team will tell you, and will point you in the right direction if it is not.

Book an appointment online at a time to suit you, call in or phone the pharmacy and ask to speak to the pharmacist about the Common Ailments Service.
