Get the morning after pill after a private, confidential chat with our pharmacist — the sooner the better

Emergency contraception, often called the morning after pill, can help prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or if your usual method of contraception has failed. We provide it here at Porthcawl Pharmacy. It works best the sooner it is taken, so please come and speak to us as early as you can.

Who can have it

Most women can use the emergency contraceptive pill, including those who are breastfeeding and those who cannot usually take hormonal contraception, such as the combined pill or the patch. It is not intended as a regular method of contraception.

This is an NHS service and is free of charge to certain patients. Please contact us to find out if you are eligible. If you are not eligible, you can still buy the tablet after a short conversation with the pharmacist.

What happens

Everyone asking for the pill will speak with the pharmacist in our private consultation room. The pharmacist will ask a few questions to work out which option is suitable for you, and will explain how and when to take it.

Your conversation is completely confidential. Your pharmacist is a healthcare professional, bound by the same rules of confidentiality as your doctor.

How to book

There is no need to mention the pill at the counter. Simply ask to speak to the pharmacist in private, and we will take it from there.
