Flu is a highly infectious illness caused by the flu virus. It spreads quickly through small droplets coughed or sneezed into the air. A seasonal flu vaccination helps your body build protection against the strains expected to circulate this winter. At Porthcawl Pharmacy, our trained pharmacist can give you your vaccination in our private consultation room.
What happens
You will have a short chat with the pharmacist first. They can explain why it is important to protect against flu, talk through the possible side effects, and suggest other ways to look after yourself over the winter.
The vaccination itself takes only a moment. It can take around 10 to 14 days for your immune system to respond fully.
Why it is needed every year
Protection from the vaccine gradually decreases, and flu strains change over time. A new vaccine is produced each year, which is why people at risk of flu are encouraged to be vaccinated every year.
Cost
If you are not eligible for a free vaccination, the cost is £22.99. Please ask us if you are unsure which applies to you.
How to book
There is no need for an appointment, although you can book a set time online if you wish,. You can simply walk in and ask for a flu vaccination, though there may be a few minutes' wait at busy times.
